Day 2: Put Down That Cell Phone, Don't Even Think About Texting

We’re appalled when we see them. You know who I mean. They’re the distracted drivers -- the ones searching around the car or dialing a phone—all from behind the wheel! By doing so, they cause 80 percent of crashes, and 65 percent of near crashes.

So, if this is such a problem, why do YOU take the same risk? Just think back to all those close calls. Furthermore, the popularity of texting—especially with teens—is a recipe for disaster when mixed with driving.

Luckily, the way to prevent these crashes is very simple—just stay focused.

  • Set up your iPod and select a playlist BEFORE you get on the road
  • Use a hands-free device if you absolutely must make a call
  • And don’t turn your passenger seat into your office; or make your rear view mirror into your bathroom mirror.

So please, use common sense. And be sure to remind your teens to stay focused as well.
