Who is Professor Dave?
Through these animated video shorts, "Professor Dave" shares his tips for safer driving. The voice and more than 40 years of expertise behind them is Dave Melton, Managing Director - Global Road Safety, Liberty International.
Dave is responsible for the development, review and implementation of a roadway safety strategy for Liberty International Region operations in Asia, Europe and Latin America.
He supports transportation related safety and health services delivered by Liberty Mutual consultants around the world. He advocates and participates in transportation related research projects at the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety, is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences, and a contributor to numerous articles on transportation safety.
He is the technical consultant to Liberty Mutual’s Teen and Senior Driving initiatives.
Dave has held positions in field and executive management and senior technical roles. His 42-year career with Liberty Mutual has moved him frequently throughout North America.
He is a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP). He is a Certified Director of Safety (CDS) and Certified Cargo Security Professional (CCSP), both by the North American Transportation Management Institute (NATMI).
He is a past-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS), a current member of the Board, and is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Professional Truck Driver Institute.
Dave is a member of the Permanent Committee on Truck and Bus Safety of the Transportation Research Board, National Academy of Sciences. He is a past member of the Advisory Council for the Center for Transportation Safety, Texas Transportation Institute, Texas A&M University.
He represents NETS and Liberty Mutual on the ANSI Z-15.1 Accredited Standards Committee on Safety Requirements for Motor Vehicle Fleet Operations.
He holds a BA degree from Eastern Kentucky University.
