Profile: Black Achievers
Students involved with Black Achievers learn to take responsibility for their educational future. How? By participating
in weekly workshops on a variety of topics, from college admission to time management and campus social life. The YMCA Black Achievers Program also holds an annual College
Fair that attracts more than 3,000 students.
Hosted by Boston College, the fair opens the door for students to meet with admissions representatives from historically
black colleges and universities. Representatives from over a dozen community agencies are also on hand to provide information
about college loan and scholarship programs. “Students know the College Fair is a unique opportunity,” says volunteer
coordinator Nicole Y. Green. “They’re not just there for the food!”
